They are fed the organic hay we grow on our farm, drink the fresh water that cascades down the mountain slopes above and run free in our green pastures from spring until fall. We’ve always believed that to produce top quality offspring you have to have both talented and beautiful mares and stallions.
He was revised in 2018 and the Spanish delegate suggested the thought he was such a superior stallion that he should go further and be Qualified. In 2017, he was the Canadian National Champion 2 yr old Colt and Gold Medal Movement Winner.
He was also shown at the Andalusian World Cup in Las Vegas and was Champion 2 yr old Colt there also. He was shown as a yearling and was the 2016 National Champion Colt, 1 year and under and Gold Medal Movement winner.
In addition to having these outstanding parents, Norteño has a full brother (Bros MA) that is the only horse in US history to win the Grand Slam. All of these horses (Camille, Sonata and Bros) were shown by the late, great Warren Mather (most decorated Andalusian Halter trainer/ Handler in the US).
“Norteño Rey” means “Northern King” which we felt was fitting for such a regal horse living up in Canada. In 2018 Tuques gave us a stunning gray colt by Norteño (VA Video) with movement to die for.
Owned and operated by Dr. Anne Starr and Brian Reward, Valhalla Mountain Kennels is located in the beautiful Slogan Valley. We have a stunning 35-acre farm where we breed and raise our Standard Poodles, Bernese Mountain Dogs and Bernedoodles.
Nestled in a broad curve of the Slogan River in the fertile valley bottom and surrounded by the lush wilderness of the rugged Valhalla and Airy Ranges of the Selkirk Mountains, we are truly in a heavenly place. Our dogs have the freedom to run and play with each other in a 2-acre fenced yard and the horses are in a 20-acre field where they graze and interact with each other in a herd as nature intended.
They are fed the organic hay that we grow, drink the fresh water that cascades down the mountain slopes above and run free in our green pastures from spring until fall. In the past, we have bred Yellow Labrador Retrievers (for almost a decade) but now breed Standard Poodles, Bernese Mountain dogs and Bernedoodles.
For the selection of our breeding dogs, it was of utmost importance that their health is clear, their conformation is superior and their temperament is intelligent and kind. The hybrid vigor that the pups get from being a mix of the two breeds makes them more resistant to almost all genetic disorders including hip dysplasia.
To date, the vast majority of our pups have been 100% hypoallergenic with most have been completely non-shedding with a small number being moderate/light shredders or greatly reduced shedding only losing the “odd tuft of hair”. Wonderful with kids and adults alike, our pups have been easy to train and are now great family members.
Color Champagne Both parents are Andalusia Dad colored blacktop colored champagne The horse is not Papered5000 or better offer.

Summer Ranch boasts a selection of our own premiere Andalusian stock available for purchase in an array of rare and highly sought after colors including PEARL, Cello, Buckskin, Palomino, Smokey Black as well as the classic Iberian colors of Gray, Black and Bay. And we offer an excellent selection of breeding stallions available to mare owners in both the United States and Canada.
We are located halfway between the Ontario and San Diego International Airports; just an easy hour drive either north or south. Visitors are welcomed, but appointments are required because we are a private residence and not a commercial facility.
Color alone would not have us going strong after more than two decades of breeding and sales of our beloved Iberian horses. Summer Ranch was the home to the legendary copper bay PRE stallion, Bravo.
Bravo earned incredible honors during his career as our showing, breeding and exhibition stallion. It's been a long wait, but we finally have our homozygous pearl stud colt to carry on the Bravo dynasty.
We also stand Orlando VG, one of the first approved Smokey Black PRE stallions imported into the United States from Spain. But despite his unique color genes, we offer up this stallion for breeding based on his overall type, quality and movement.
He represents the older style of breeding stallion with a compact, athletic build. Since that time Summer Ranch made genetic history when Bravo (the copper bay stallion) produced what appeared to be per lino and cello babies when bred to Palomino and Buckskin mares.
These first babies arrived in the early to mid-90's and were the result of breeding to outcross mares and....to say the least.....they were a complete surprise!! Unfortunately the technology of the time was not ready for our unusual little foals and it took almost a decade before we could even think about getting any answers to our many questions.
During that time period, an unrelated chestnut Andalusian mare surfaced that could also produce foals that looked double dilute. This drew the interest of several very affluent individuals in the 'color world' and we were finally able to work in conjunction with a Geneticist and UC Davis.
Although there is no set standard and variations can be observed, through my personal experience with homozygous creams, homozygous pearls and cream/pearl combinations in our Iberian horses, I have observed that the double creams tend to be much lighter with little to no color change between their bodies and their manes & tails. A horse with a single PEARL gene and no cream, will have no outward color effect.
That horse, like our Bravo, would have to be DNA tested in order to determine if he/she carries the PEARL gene. Just as we believe that PATINA was the first Buckskin Pearl PRE filly bred and born in the United States....also in 2011.
Credits include the Adam Sandler film, Spanglish (Columbia Pictures); the hit television series “The Bachelor” starring Bachelor “Bob” who rode Cordero on our Southern California seashore while his date rode another white Andalusian, Amado; and a prime-time television commercial for the ABC hit series, “The Bachelorette”. Jessica Gay tan on Cordero filming a commercial for ABC's hit television show, THE BACHELORETTE.
Summer Ranch was not only invited to participate in the equine sector focusing on the Pure Spanish Horse, but the organization also paid for 100% of our travel expenses. This was an outstanding opportunity for us, and we feel confident our new contacts in Spain will benefit, not only Summer Ranch and the Spanish breeders, but also our clients in the United States and Canada.
