In 2014, we stopped breeding for the specific purpose of taking our time to finding homes for the Lusitania we had left, their forever riding partners! Don E For employs one trainer, one to two riders, and several part-time farmworkers.
The ancestors of the Luciano were originally used for warfare, classical dressage, driving a carriage and bullfighting. Our breeding program was designed to provide horses who love people and that respond to their rider with sensitivity, softness and an elegance that displays a harmony between them.
We bred our horses with qualities of lightness, relaxation, suppleness, self-carriage and balance to celebrate the Art of Classical Horsemanship. Our breeding program was developed by carefully selecting high quality Portuguese/ Brazilian mares and stallions with the most desirable characteristics.
We bred our horses to have necks that are thick and arched, leading to well-defined withers, shoulders that are muscular and sloping, and a deep, broad chest. Our breeding program builds horses that have great temperaments, strong backs with rounded sloped groups with a low-set tail.
In our training program we are never in a rush, taking our time to allow our Lusitania to mature physically, to build appropriate muscle for their next level of learning. As the years have unfolded, Don E For has been blessed with many amazing Luciano and Andalusian horses.
From this foundation our horses can go on to excel in classical dressage, evening, working equitation, equine archery, carriage, western pleasure, and any other discipline you desire to try. From the day they are born, our team has colts and fillies, patiently teaching each Luciano the basics of leading, loading, foot care and manners.
We feel it is this early training that is key in establishing that human/equine bond that is so strong in the Luciano breed. Each year Don E For's foals receive this customized handling wrapped in layers of love and respect.
