The rocks can be slick and the water can be up to two feet deep when the rainfall has been heavy. This loop takes about 2 hours, depending on your speed and how long you stay at the viewpoints.

For campers, Wolf Ford Horse Camp provides access to many miles of equestrian trails in the South Mills River area. Wash Creek Horse Camp is a nearby group reservation site.
Santayana National Forest Tali Recreation Area has 40 miles of trails with trails rotating for enjoyment by horseback riders and mountain bikers. Wine Spring and Hurricane Creek Horse primitive camps are located near Franklin.
South Mills River Area, Pisa National Forest near Brevard Very popular backcountry area for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Numerous trails offer many opportunities for loop rides.
Most trails follow historic logging roads and railroad grades alongside streams through hardwood forests. Harmon Den Cold Springs Creek flows through dense woods and grassy fields on its way to the Pigeon River.
The forest shows hints of its past history of farming, logging, narrow gauge railroads, settlements, as well as signs of recent forest management. The grassy ridges of Max Patch Mountain near the Tennessee state line crown the area.
Trails combine with Forest Service Roads to provide loop riding opportunities. This jewel of a state park in the foothills is a great place to enjoy nature.

It is not hard to see why my great-grandfather settled in this location over a hundred years ago! You will never forget your North Carolina horseback riding experience at Sandy Bottom trail rides.
Just the right amount of time in the saddle to enjoy a scenic trail ride in the North Carolina mountains. Our experienced guides will lead you on a ride with gentle trails and panoramic views of the countryside.
We then take a short break at the 200-year-old gem mine and cave to allow our guests to stretch and explore for 10 to 20 minutes before winding back down to the stables. We leave the stables and ride over the hilltops for approximately an hour.
After one hour, we mount again and follow the trail to up to the high mountain. The four-hour ride gives you a sweeping view of the surrounding mountains, valleys and meadows.
We also visit the gem mine, where you have a chance to look for garnets and stretch your legs. As we ride higher the mountain, we will stop on top of the ridge to take pictures.

Hooker Falls drops off an 11 ledge into Cascade Lake further downstream. It can also be reached by a short walk from the High Falls Access Area.
A 20 cascade on the Grassy Creek, Wintergreen offers solitude on the Henderson County side of the Forest. A trip to 99-acre Lake Julia is an excellent hike, horseback, or mountain bike ride with a beautiful spillway nearby.
There are picnic tables and a pier at the end of Lake Julia Road. But the hundreds of acres of exposed granite make this dome a popular destination for cyclists and hikers alike.
For an easy ride one can go directly to Corn Mill Shoals with a side trip down the Little River and Nooks Trails. Up to Stone Mountain, the Forest’s highest point at 3600 ft.
Bridal Veil Falls is perhaps the unique falls in the State Forest, with a 4 tall overhanging ledge on the upper section, and a long, shallow whitewater incline along the lower section. Access to Bridal Veil requires a longer hike or ride than other falls.
Do not cross the marked boundary of DuPont State Recreational Forest. The longer trails are for experienced people with too maps.
