The build is the standard choice for most encounters, focusing on dealing high and sustained single target damage. The two builds suggested above are generalized versions that do not account for individual encounters in the current raid tier.
We have a boss-by-boss breakdown of talent choices as well as tips and tricks only Outlaw can pull off on our dedicated Raid page. Mythic+ oftentimes requires a very specific talent setup that mixes single-target and AOE to perform well on both bosses and trash.
Weapon master Quick Draw Ghostly Strike Tier 1 talents focus on improving Combo Point generation. Weapon master is simply inferior to Quick Draw in terms of raw DPS.
Retractable Hook Hit and Run Tier 2 talents focus on improving your mobility. Acrobatic Strikes is a good choice on cleave encounters as it also extends the length of your Blade Flurry.
Deeper Stratagem leads to a slightly slower rotation (as compared to Vigor) but your finishers will gain increased effectiveness and damage. Elusiveness is technically the best talent in most situations, but requires you to be extremely proficient with Feint usage and very aware of incoming damage.
Iron Stomach is by far the best choice for leveling and solo content, as it improves your self-sustainability noticeably. Dirty Tricks Blinding Powder Prey on the Weak Tier 5 talents focus on improving your crowd control utility.
Dirty Tricks removes the Energy cost from Cheap Shot, Gouge, and Sap. Prey on the Weak causes targets afflicted by your Cheap Shot or Between the Eyes to take 10% increased damage from all sources for 6 seconds.
Prey on the Weak is the strongest option in this tier, as it allows you to increase everyone's damage by 10% for 6 seconds, on stainable enemies. Dirty Tricks has practically no instance Eve usage as you are unlikely to use any of the abilities it affects during the fight.
Loaded Dice Alacrity Dread blades Tier 6 talents offer finisher modifiers. Loaded Dice makes activating Adrenaline Rush cause your next Roll the Bones to grant at least two buffs.
Alacrity causes finishing moves to have a 20% chance per Combo Point to grant 2% Haste for 20 seconds, stacking 5 times. Alacrity is the best choice in raids and dungeons, provided you are able to consistently maintain your stacks for most of the encounters.
While Loaded Dice does help reduce the random aspect of Roll the Bones a bit, it currently lags too far behind Alacrity to be competitive for damage. Dread blades is a solid option due to the amount of burst damage you can deal during its duration, but still performs worse than Alacrity.
Dancing Steel Blade Rush Killing Spree Tier 7 talents focus on shifting the play style in new directions. Blade Rush charges you towards the target, damaging all of nearby enemies, and generating 25 Energy over 5 seconds.
Killing Spree is affected by Blade Flurry and will hit nearby enemies for 100% of the damage during it. Killing Spree is mediocre in damage and the forced movement can put you in perilous situations however, so use it with care.
Dancing Steel is only helpful for ease of use, as you should already be able to maintain close to 100% uptime on Blade Flurry. In this section we will rank the PVP talents best for leveling and doing solo / small group Eve content.
Take Your Cut causes you and allies within 8 yards to gain 15% Haste for 8 seconds after you use Roll the Bones. It is fairly good, since it acts as a mini- Adrenaline Rush and has decent uptime when you are questing in the open world.
Boarding Party makes Between the Eyes increase the movement speed of all friendly players within 10 yards by 30% for 5 seconds. Maneuverability makes your Sprint suppresses all movement impairing effects, thus helping out a bit with mobility.
You can use Pistol Shot repeatedly to generate Combo Points while this buff is active if you are low on Energy. 15 Weapon master Premeditation Gloom blade 25 Night stalker Subterfuge Shadow Focus 30 Vigor Deeper Stratagem Marked for Death 35 Soothing Darkness Cheat Death Elusiveness 40 Shot in the Dark Night Terrors Prey on the Weak 45 Dark Shadow Alacrity Enveloping Shadows 50 Master of Shadows Secret Technique Shrike Tornado While the above table provides a generally accurate overview of the viability of talents, some finer points are discussed in the sections that follow, and we recommend you read those for a deeper understanding.
This will give you more time to do more damage, rather than having to spend Combo Points on Slice and Dice. This talent will make Shadow Dance an even stronger cooldown.
The increased damage and control you have while Shadow Dance is active make Subtlety Rogues very powerful. You can use Marked For Death and get a full Kidney Shot on your kill target or for crowd control.
Elusiveness is an all-around solid choice, and the best talent in this tier. This makes it, so you can not only reduce the cooldown of Shadow Dance, but you get a second charge of it as well.
This is crucial to maximizing your control and damage throughout an arena match. This will allow you to regenerate Energy quicker while you are in Stealth or while Shadow Dance is active, increasing your sustained damage.
The top three choices are the most useful, but can be replaced with other PVP talents depending on your team's goal. Cold Blood instantly deals 10% of the enemy players' health when you use Cheap Shot or Shadow strike.
This is a good offensive cooldown and a great ability when using your burst rotation. The enemy healer will not be able to heal, and you will easily secure a kill while Smoke Bomb is active.
This is not done often, but you can use Smoke Bomb on your healer to prevent enemies from crowd controlling them. Maneuverability is a very strong PVP talent versus teams with multiple slows.
Internal Bleeding Iron Wire Prey on the Weak 45 Venom Rush Alacrity Exsanguinate 50 Poison Bomb Hidden Blades ? Crimson Tempest Talents can be freely changed when out of combat and in a rested XP area (such as an inn or a capital city).
The build is the standard choice for most encounters, focusing on dealing high and sustained single target damage. Level 15: Elaborate Planning or Master Poisoner if you are using Dashing Scoundrel or want a 60% movement speed slow.
The two builds suggested above are generalized versions that do not account for individual encounters in the current raid tier. We have a boss-by-boss breakdown of talent choices as well as tips and tricks only Assassination can pull off on our dedicated Raid page.
Mythic+ oftentimes requires a very specific talent setup that mixes single-target and AOE to perform well on both bosses and trash. Elaborate Planning is a solid choice for cleave and AOE fights, due to having a higher uptime when we get to generate more Combo Points.
Blindside is a fun talent and speeds up the rotation due to getting more Combo Points as well as providing good execute damage. Night stalker Subterfuge Master Assassin Tier 2 talents improve your Stealth functionality.
Garrote also has no cooldown and deals 80% additional damage if cast while Stealth or Subterfuge are active. Master Assassin grants your Rogue abilities 50% increased Critical Strike chance for 3 seconds after breaking Stealth.
Master Assassin allows for higher burst than Subterfuge and is slightly stronger on pure single-target. Vigor is the best choice when using a default build and offers great ease and flexibility of play.
Cheat Death cannot save you from damage greater than double your maximum health. Leeching Poison is great for daily content, leveling up or Toughest, but it is not recommended playing in dungeons or raids.
Internal Bleeding Iron Wire Prey on the Weak Tier 5 talents improve your crowd control utility. It generates energy via Venomous Wounds which allows for more burst and is a very good pick for solo content.
Iron Wire is very situational, but can be helpful in reducing the tank's damage taken when fighting mobs that can be silenced. Prey on the Weak is the best choice if your raid needs to incapacitate and eliminate a priority add quickly.
Venom Rush Alacrity Exsanguinate Tier 6 talents alter your play style significantly. Alacrity grants increasing amounts of Haste after using a finishing move, allowing for a more fluid rotation.
Venom Rush is the worst option in this tier and performs much worse than both Alacrity and Exsanguinate. The additional Haste speeds up the rotation and energy regeneration and improves the damage your bleeds deal.
Crimson Tempest Tier 7 talents offer some additional damage utility. Poison Bomb causes your Envenom and Rupture to have a 4% chance per Combo Point spent to smash a vial of poison at the target's location, creating a pool of acidic death that deals Nature damage over 2 seconds to all enemies within it.
Hidden Blades increases the damage to your next Fan of Knives by 20%, every 2 seconds, stacking up to 20 times. The amount of CP used increases both the initial damage and the duration of the bleeding effect.
Poison Bomb is the best choice on single target, and easiest on AOE, as long as enemies are stacked together. Crimson Tempest is good in sustained AOE situations at the cost of spending fewer Combo Points on Envenom, lowering your damage to the main target.
In this section we will rank the PVP talents best for leveling and doing solo / small group Eve content. System Shock deals nature damage and slows enemy's movement speed by 90% for 2 seconds, when you use a 5 Combo Point Envenom on targets afflicted with your Garrote, Rupture, and Lethal Poison.
Creeping Venom adds a 4-second Nature damage Dot to Envenom casts, the duration of which is refreshed when the target moves. It is another good talent, as it also passively boosts damage, and can be easily refreshed by simply side stepping.
Flying Daggers causes Fan of Knives to have 50% greater radius and damage, when it hits 3 or more enemies. This can be very effective when combined with Hidden Blades and Night stalker, as it greatly increases your burst capabilities.
